Celebrating 25 years with Carrie Symons

Get a behind-the-scenes look at Carrie’s 25 year journey at ihear

What is your professional & educational background?

I came straight from school into an admin role and then started the study and training a few months into the job to become an Audiometrist.

What made you enter into this industry?

I left school and a few weeks later didn’t really know what I wanted to do so I deferred Uni and applied for the admin job.

Do you remember your first day?

Yes. I was very nervous and had no idea about anything to do with ears or hearing aids!

How has your job changed over the years?

It has changed dramatically. I first started in an admin role and, a few months later, was offered the opportunity to study and gain my qualifications as an Audiometrist which I jumped on board with.

What’s your favourite part of the job?

My favourite part of the job is helping people hear and see the changes that it makes to their life and their families’ life.

What are the everyday challenges you face in your work?

The everyday challenges that I face are the juggle of being a solo parent and working. You need good organisational skills, which I am lucky to have.

What is something people may not know about you?

I am a bit of a practical joker and love to have a laugh, and I am never too serious.

What has been your biggest lesson learned in the last 25 years?

Appreciation and always back yourself. A little bit of appreciation and acknowledgment for milestones and a job well done goes a long way. It makes a person feel valued.
